Have a group of like-minded people that want get hands-on and give back? Build days provide companies, nonprofit organizations, faith groups, social clubs, schools, and many other groups the chance to bond with their team while giving back. Unlike spending a day doing trust falls or building marshmallow towers, your group will become closer by building something that makes a difference.

How it works

Build days are held Wednesday through Saturday all year round for groups of up to 10, fully vaccinated volunteers. We provide all materials, training, and supervision so no previous construction experience is required. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Our build day schedule fills up quickly and days are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis, so we recommend requesting to schedule your day at least 3 months in advance.

Community Build Days

When you volunteer with Habitat DC-NOVA, your group will have a rewarding and meaningfully experience learning about our housing program and contributing to a tangible outcome. We host community builds at least twice a month for non-corporate organizations looking to get involved in our work. Community groups are welcome to volunteer on our construction site and in our ReStores.

While no contribution is necessary to partner with us as a community group, we encourage all of our community volunteer partners to consider hosting a fundraiser to help cover the cost of of building materials for the homes we build together. Our staff can help you every step of the way, including setting you up with a customized fundraising page and providing helpful tips to make your fundraiser successful.

To get started, please contact Rachel Jones, Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager, at rachel.jones@habitatdcnova.org or 703-521-9890 x.109.

THE HABITAT STAFF WAS WARM, WELCOMING, AND VERY EAGER TO ACTUALLY LET US ALL PITCH IN. [THE EXPERIENCE] SHOWED ME AND MY COLLEAGUES HOW A LITTLE BIT OF HARD WORK COULD GO A LONG WAY IN HELPING A FAMILY ACHIEVE THE DREAM OF HOMEOWNERSHIP. IT WAS ALSO NICE TO LEARN NEW SKILLS AND SEE HOW A BUILDING IS ASSEMBLED FROM THE GROUND UP. IT’S A WONDERFUL DAY OF SERVICE, AND YOU ACTUALLY GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY WHILE THERE!
